Corridors of Power

Friday, September 6, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
An MP from Meru on Wednesday night stopped his newly acquired vehicle in front of a city hotel, stepped out and urinated in the middle of the road! The MP, who was with some of his constituents in the car, was not apologetic. He removed an envelope stashed with cash to prove just how well he is doing financially. He was oblivious to the anger of other motorists who he held up as he went about his toilet business and who nearly thrashed him when they realised what he was up to. The motorists shouted insults at him as they drove past.

Eight, not five, MPs allied to Cord have confirmed their intention to travel to the Hague to give moral support to Deputy President William Ruto when he appears before the ICC. The Cord MPs are not worried about what message their trip will be sending to their constituents and the victims. They defended their actions saying they have to stay on the good side of the Jubilee administration. The number of MPs who are sucking up to the government is growing by the day as the trial date draws near.

A senior government official who previously occupied an office on Mama Ngina Street in Nairobi has been forced out to a building on Harambee Avenue after he ignored requests to leave. The man who has held the office for close to a decade and a half, and who did not want to lose the plum position which had given him an opportunity to get rich, has unsuccessfully been lobbying politicians to have his transfer to another government department revoked. The fact that he has been redeployed to a ‘junior ’office while his deputy has been promoted to succeed him has wounded him so much that he has now threatened to resign.
