Corridors Of Power

Saturday, August 31, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY THE POLITICAL DESK
A group of senior civil servants aspiring to be appointed to a plush budgetary position at the national level have hatched a plot to release a 'scandalous dossier' on any colleague they perceive to be a threat to their chances of getting the job. They want to ensure that they eliminate any credible challengers and leave themselves as the only choices for the government.

A section of MPs in the National Assembly were recently heard complaining that one of them used public resources to travel to a European country on private business. They have vowed to ensure investigations into the matter through a House committee to determine how the resources were squandered in private engagements overseas. The MP spent more than four days abroad.

A Principal Secretary was overheard saying it is now time to recover money he spent to bribe MPs during the vetting process to have his name sail through. The man, who is known not to make reckless statements, surprised his friends at a popular drinking joint in the outskirts of the city when he told them of his plans. Corridors has it that the PS has given himself two months to get the cash back.

Nairobi county representatives are a disappointed lot after a former city godfather took it upon himself to extort them a certain percentage of their earnings every end month. The reps say the man whose political ambitions have dwindled has been boasting about how he helped them win elections. However, they are lost as to why he didn’t help himself first. One of the reps told Corridors that the man has even hired his former point man as a debt collector. They have vowed not to cooperate when the “debt collector” turns up for this month’s dues.
