BONDO MP Gideon Ochanda has told ODM to nominate a strong candidate who will recapture the Siaya gubernatorial seat. Ochanda said candidates interested in the seat should be vetted thoroughly.
“We don’t want the party to make the same mistakes made during the general elections,” Ochanda said. He was speaking on Monday at Chemelil Complex during Kisumu county leadership conference.
“The people of Siaya should participate in the nomination process and their will must be respected,” Ochanda said. He said the nominated candidate should enjoy the support of residents.
Chemelil county representative Joseph Osano urged CORD to consider many all options when nominating a candidate. Ochanda said he had not told former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to keep off Siaya politics.
Osano also called for support and massive campaigns to the party's nominee to ensure it captures the seat. The seat fell vanant following the nullification of former governor Cornel Rasanga’s election.
Kisumu High Court Judge Aggrey Muchelule nullified the election of Rasanga over malpractices and irregularities. Muchelule declared that Rasanga was not validly elected and ordered that a by election be held.
