Kethi Appeals Against High Court Ruling

Kethi Appeals Against High Court Ruling
Lawyer Kethi Kilonzo has now appealed against a ruling of the High Court that declared her to be an unregistered voter.
The lawyer who was barred from vying for the Makueni senatorial seat wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to furnish her with all documentary evidence showing she was unregistered voter

The decision to bar her from the senatorial race was reached by three judges, Weldon Korir, Mumbi Ngugi and Richard Mwongo

The evidence she wants include a certified copy of the acknowledgement slip of the retired President Kibaki, poll diary for NCC Social Hall, a certified copy of voters with biometrics of the same polling station among other things.

Kethi, the daughter of the late Cabinet Minister Mutula Kilonzo wants the documents given to her within 24 hours.

An IEBC officer, Immaculate Kasait testified that the slip Kethi presented as proof of her registration was stolen from the commission.

She said that the slip was taken from a booklet that was used to register former President Mwai Kibaki at KICC.

The IEBC Tribunal ruled that Kethi was not registered and revoked her nomination to contest the Makueni seat.

She had been cleared to vie for the seat by her party, Wiper.

She moved to court to challenge the decision but a three judge bench ruled against her petition and upheld the tribunal decision.

Her brother Mutula Kilonzo Jr was later picked by Wiper Party to contest for the seat and won with a landslide.
