Corridors of Power

With the surprises that some of the current Permanent Secretaries got as President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the nominated Principal Secretaries last week, there is panic among top officials in government with the focus expected to shift to ambassadors and parastatals. He said he knows some ambassadors who are already lobbying for jobs in international organisations in the countries they are based.

Rumour has it that the President is likely to pick TNA's Secretary General Onyango Oloo as the Presidential Press Secretary to replace current PPS Director Isaiah Kabira. Those close to the Presidency are surprised by this likely move as the President appears to have overlooked Munyori Buku who has been his Spokesman at Treasury and during the campaigns.

A female nominated MP who is serving her first term in the National Assembly got a rude shock recently when she was turned away after she had gone to seek her mileage claim. Unknown to her, the claim is a reserve of elected MPs only. The MP had sought directions from journalists within Parliament buildings to the office and was swiftly led there. The shocker came when she was asked to produce all the details proving that she had travelled to her constituency. She did not understand what “her constituency meant” and after consulting her colleague who was also in the office, she stormed out.
