Vocal leaders on MPs salary debate join PSC

NAIROBI, KENYA: Members of parliament who have been vocal in articulating the controversial salary perks of MPs have been appointed as members of the crucial Parliamentary Service Commission

Outspoken MPs Jimmy Angwenyi, Aden Keynan and Gladys Wanga will join senators Beth Mugo, Sammy Leshore and David Musila to the PSC that is chaired by House Speaker Justin Muturi. West Pokot Women Representatives Regina Changorok has also been appointed.

Angwenyi, Keynan and Ms Wanga were particularly outstanding when the issue of the legislators’ salaries was debated in the house, perhaps explaining why their respective parties settled on them.

MPs have vowed to sue the PSC route to get their demands met, arguing that PSC is a body mandated by constitution to be in charge of the welfare of MPs including their perks.

The new members now await swearing in before they start their work.  They will also be joined by two other members, a man and woman, who are experts on matters of parliament but are not sitting MPs.  

The names were among the 27 departmental and select committee that were approved by the National Assembly on Thursday evening following days of haggling between protagonist Jubilee and Cord coalitions.
