SHOCKER to RAILA ODINGA as youths in LUO NYANZA are busy selling IDs at Sh 1,000

Friday March 1, 2013 - Youth in parts of Luo Nyanza are selling Identity Cards (IDs) at Sh 1,000 to criminals, who want to weaken the Luo community vote, CORD officials have said.

The officials who had converged at a hotel in Kisumu City urged the youth to shun away from the vice since it will deprive them off their democratic right to vote.

Led by Ford Kenya aspirant for Kisumu Central constituency Abdulqadir Mohammed, the leaders said unknown people have been traversing the lake side city offering ‘good money' in exchange for identification cards.

“We have credible information that there are people dishing out money to wananchiin exchange to their identification cards. It is pathetic that someone can sell his/her right for a mere KES 1000," Mohammed said.

The leaders urged the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) to investigate the issue and crack the whip on people found engaging in the vice.

They also said the most affected people are the Bodaboda operators who are offered “good money’” in exchange for the crucial document.
