One DEAD in suspected Mombasa Republican Council ATTACK in Malindi …

Friday, the 1st of March 2013 - The Kenyan DAILY POST has received reports that one person has died and at least two others critically injured following an attack by people suspected to be members of the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) in the coastal town of Malindi.

Details are still sketchy but the attack is said to have happened early on Friday. The two people wounded in the attack have been taken to the Malindi District Hospital.

If confirmed, this will be the first attack by members of the MRC since last year when a government crackdown dismantled the group and threw its main leadership in jail.

The MRC advocates for the secession of the coastal region of Kenya due to ‘historical injustices’ as relates to matters of land, use of the port of Mombasa and distribution of other national resources.

MRC Secretary General Hamza Randu was recently quoted by the BBC as saying that group was still pushing on with its secessionist agenda.

More updates on this story to follow.
