Keep promise on peace, Mudavadi tells leaders

KENYA: Amani presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi has urged his rivals to ensure peace prevails after the General Election.

Addressing a series of rallies in Kakamega County on Thursday,Mudavadi said presidential candidates should ensure the country remains calm.

“We made a commitment to Kenyans and the world that we will keep peace whether we win or lose the election. I am urging my colleagues in the presidential race to uphold their commitment that there would be peace after the polls,” reiteratedMudavadi.

He noted that peace was essential for progress and politicians should ensure their supporters do not engage in any acts of violence.

Mudavadi said he was happy with the way security apparatus and other agencies were preparing to deal with any negative incidents during and after the elections.

“I know security personnel are more prepared to deal with violence but we should not take that direction. Kenyans should learn from the post-election violence and live in harmony once the results are announced,” said Mudavadi.

Top priority

The Deputy Prime Minister, accompanied by Kakamega gubernatorial candidate and Housing Minister Soita Shitanda, addressed his followers at Mumias trading centre, Navakholo, Matete, Pan Paper grounds and Matunda in Lugari District.

Speaking at Pan Paper grounds in Lugari constituency, Mudavadi urged residents to elect United Democratic Front candidate Ayub Savula during the polls.

Savula said his priority would be to rehabilitate dilapidated roads in the constituency to save farmers the agony they face while transporting maize to the National Cereals and Produce Board depot in Turbo. He took issue with former area MP Cyrus Jirongo saying he had failed residents while in Parliament.

The UDF leader is expected to campaign in Vihiga and Busia counties on Friday.
