Uhuru: We are yet to finalise deal

NAIROBI, KENYA:  Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta said negotiations between him and Eldoret North MP William Ruto are not complete. The TNA presidential aspirant, however, exuded confidence that fine-tuning of the deal will be complete before the deadline.
“We are still talking to our colleagues in URP which you all know is headed by Mr Ruto, we have not completed our negotiations but we are going to complete,” he said.
Uhuru said the meeting bringing together United Republican Party and The National Alliance to be held on Monday in Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium aims at uniting the country ahead of the March polls.
“We are not going to Nakuru to say we want this or that or to support this or that person. We are going to Nakuru to say that we want to work together to ensure we get unity for this country. That is our agenda. Violence has always started in Nakuru and we have said we will start there. If we can get peace in Nakuru, we will get peace for the whole country,” he said.
Monday’s meeting is expected to unveil the political deal between URP and TNA.
The meeting, The Standard On Saturday established, will also be used to unveil Uhuru’s campaign pillars: Umoja, Uchumi na Uwezo.
Uhuru was addressing elders  gathered at Bomas of Kenya shortly after he spoke to TNA women aspirants at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Meanwhile, plans are in top gear to ferry Uhuru’s supporters from central Kenya to Nakuru for the Afraha Stadium rally.
Yesterday, most of the political aspirants from the region were mobilising their supporters to attend the rally.
In Nyeri, some public service vehicles have been hired to ferry people to Nakuru through Nyahururu.
The National Alliance aspirants caucus Chairman Simon Mathenge said local politicians have been mobilising their supporters to attend the rally in support of Uhuru.
“We want to be there to witness the historic day and most people are interested in travelling to Nakuru,” said Mathenge.
