OTHAYA parliamentary aspirants have reacted angrily to reports that President Kibaki and TNA presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta have endorsed Gichuki Mugambi for the Othaya MP seat.
Led by DP parliamentary hopeful Esau Kioni and his APK counterpart Ringaru Gichane, the aspirants dismissed the allegations made by President Kibaki’s son Jimi that the head of state and Uhuru will back Mugambi.
During recent campaigns in Othaya, Jimi joined Mugambi in traversing the constituency where the younger Kibaki made more than 10 stops where he urged residents to elect Mugambi during the forthcoming TNA party nominations.
“I know he is capable as he has initiated many development projects in the area as the chairman of Othaya Development Association. Mzee sat down with Uhuru and agreed that Mugambi is the best fit for the parliamentary seat,” he said.
Jimi's allegations have stirred different emotions, with some residents urging him to keep off Othaya politics and let the people decide.
“We know Kibaki as a democratic man and we know he can never do that. Let the people decide. Othaya people want a person who is always available for them,” said Kioni.
Gichane said Othaya people are intelligent people and know who to choose without being shown the way. “Kibaki has never endorsed anybody in his life time. Jimi should be told not to interfere with the electoral process in Othaya,” said Gichane.
Another area TNA parliamentary aspirant Mary Wambui also told Jimi to stop dragging Kibaki's into Othaya politics, saying the head of state should be left to retire in peace.
