Kenya has secured technical support from the United States in its bid to establish a state of the art Cancer Treatment Center.
Public Health Minister Beth Mugo on Sunday said Sh350 million has already been set aside for the establishment of the Center, which will have Satellite Health facilities in all counties.
“In June, I wrote to the Secretary of Health requesting for the US assistance and she affirmed that they would support the program,” she said.
She said the centre is timely in view of the increasing cases of cancer cases across all demographics.
“It cannot be stressed enough the pivotal role this Center will play considering that cancer has overtaken HIV/AIDS in the list of killer diseases,” she said.
The minister made the announcement on arrival from USA where she had been undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
She said her doctors had given her a clean bill of health.
“The journey has made me renew my vigour to ensure that all Kenyans can access affordable cancer treatment especially cervical and breast cancer, which are the leading cancers among women,” she said.
