Baraza Tribunal begins hearingsWritten By:Vincent Lempaa, Posted: Mon, Jul 02, 2012 | ||
The tribunal investigating the conduct of suspended Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza started its hearing in Nairobi Monday.
The seven-member tribunal however met in-camera after Baraza opted to exclude the media from the proceedings.
Baraza was suspended from her position and a tribunal formed to investigate her conduct after it was alleged that she assaulted security guard Rebecca Kerubo in Nairobi on New Year's Eve.
The seven member Tribunal comprises Augustino Stephen Lawrence Ramadhan, a former Chief Justice of Tanzania, as chairman, Prof Judith Mbula Behemuka, Justice (Rtd) Philip J. Ransley, Surinder Kapila, Beauttah Alukhava Siganga, Grace Barbara Ngele Madoka and Prof Mugambi Jesse Ndwiga Kanyua.
In March, the High Court ruled that Baraza must face a tribunal set up to investigate her conduct following a suit by the DCJ who argued that she would not get a fair trial before the tribunal.
The tribunal is expected to report to the president after concluding its findings.
