Party of National Unity presidential aspirant George Saitoti yesterday lost his ally and point man in Kajiado county politics to Uhuru Kenyatta's National Alliance Party in a ceremony in Ngong town. Solomon Kinyanjui, who has been Saitoti's think-tank after the last general election, moved to TNA alongside 30 councillors and county ward assembly aspirants from Olkeri, Nkaimurunya, Ongata Rongai, Ololua and Ngong township during a ceremony in Ngong town yesterday. The areas have been Saitoti's votes' basket for close to 30 years.
The defection is viewed by local political pundits as a major dent for Saitoti and a major boost for the Deputy Prime Minister. Kinyanjui announced that TNA will sponsor its candidates in the county for all elective positions. Kinyanjui, who was Kanu's vice-chairman for the county, had joined Saitoti's camp soon after the last general election. He is an aggressive political campaigner.
The youthful leader said yesterday he is following Uhuru to TNA ''because the party promises to change the landscape of politics in Kenya''. He also toured Ongata Rongai, Nkaimurunya and Kiserian. At Nkaimurunya, he visited a family of Annah Nduku whose brother was killed by floods recently. He donated money for school fees for the 10-year-old deceased's son.
He appealed to the local people not to build houses on water ways to avoid disasters. Six people were swept away in the county in the recent floods that also destroyed proprty worth millions of shillings. Kinyanjui, who was recently endorsed by church leaders, councillors and aspiring county ward assembly representatives to seek the Kajiado North constituency parliamentry seat, will be fighting it with six other contenders, among them Samuel G. Maina, Peter Gitau, John Maina Muthiga, Alex Kerara, Anthony Keen and Malik Mureu.
