The main politicians who pushed Internal Security minister George Saitoti to vie for the presidency have abandoned him, a former MP has said.
PNU organising secretary Maina Kamanda claimed that politicians who nurtured Prof Saitoti and encouraged him to pursue the presidency ditched him after he announced his bid.
Mr Kamanda pointed accusing fingers at Energy minister Kiraitu Murungi and Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, saying they should have been at the forefront of Prof Saitoti’s campaign. (READ: Kiraitu, Uhuru in alliance talks)
Highest seat
“It’s unfair for them to have encouraged him to go for the highest seat on the land, only to turn their backs on him, “he saidin Naivasha during the launch of the PNU website on Saturday, .
Mr Kamanda argued that party hopping was creating tension in Kenya. The former Cabinet minister and Starehe MP claimed that many politicians who had left PNU had secretly regretted taking the move.
“We will welcome every defector back because we are sure they will return before the year ends,” he added.
