The Administration Police department has exonerated itself from Friday morning robbery incident that saw 36 million shillings on transit stolen before it was eventually recovered, purportedly by the officers.
AP spokesman Masoud Mwinyi says preliminary investigations show that no officer from his department had been assigned to escort the cash that was being transported from Nairobi to Garrissa adding that none of the said fire arms used in the theft belonged to the force.
Mwinyi was reacting to reports that the money which was being transported by security firm Wells Fargo was allegedly diverted by Administration Police officers who abandoned the van carrying it and fled after failing to access the cash box.
Mwinyi however says proper revised security mechanisms are in place,to deter a repeat of  such occurrences.
He said impromptu inspections will be undertaken to make sure that police officers don't hire their uniforms and guns to criminals.
The money in a blue cash box that was locked with two padlocks was later found abandoned less than 500 metres from the Thika superhighway.
It now emerging that six men posing as administration police officers were behind the heist.
