Two victims buried as rescue efforts come to a close
Sorrow and grief engulfed Lamu town as two victims of the tragic accident were escorted to their final resting place in Langoni Cemetery.
Tens of relatives and friends turned up to bid farewell to their loved ones.
The Kenya Red Cross has set up an information desk to help next off kin trace their missing relatives.
Meanwhile, after intensive efforts by both local and naval deep sea divers in search of more bodies following Sunday accident, the mission has been called off.
Rescuers explored the Indian Ocean off Lamu Island for 24 hours where a passenger boat collided head on with a cargo boat.
The rescue team says they are now waiting for a possible resurfacing of the bodies.
Atleast 7 people were confirmed dead and scores injured when a passenger boat collided with a cargo one on Indian Ocean on Sunday evening.
Reports indicate that the passenger boat was overloaded at the time of the incident but the real cause of the collision and the subsequent capsizing of the boat is yet to be established.
Reports from Lamu indicate that 13 survivors admitted to the Lamu District Hospital have since been discharged.
