Nine land mine explosions that are suspected to be the ones used by members of the al shabaab group in committing their criminal activities were yesterday afternoon found in an abandoned house in the ifo refugee camp. According to source who spoke to the star on phone, the explosives were identified by police after being given a tip off by one of the refugee who stays in the camp. It is believed that the explosives were left behind by members of the rag tag group who were fearing to be arrested with the devices by the security officers who conducted a swoop in the refugee camps a week ago.
Sources confided to the star that two women were arrested in connection to the explosives but one man who was also with them escaped. But when contacted Northeastern police boss leo nyongesa said that “police only found cables and a battery in the house and not explosives as alleged”. “What the security officers found in the abandoned house are part of the ingredients that are used in assembling improvised electronic devices, “said the police boss on phone.
He further added that police had arrested a few suspected in relation to the incident whome he said would provide with crucial information. There has been a string of attacks by Al shabaab militants and their sympathisers since kenya sent trops into somalia on october to hunt down the insergents who were blamed for a series of muders and kidnappings on the kenya soil with daadab district which hosts the refugee camps being one of the worst hit by the attacks. In total about 7 security officers were killed in ten attacks that has occurred in Mandera town, while 19 people were killed in Garissa County among them five security officers.
