A Mombasa businessman was yesterday charged with obtaining more than Sh3.5 million from a land buyer illegally. Andrew Peter Ngirici denied seven counts of forging certificates of titles, search entries and transfer of land entries. It was alleged that he committed the offences between July 12 and September 14, 2001 in Nairobi.
Ngirici faced another charge of obtaining Sh2 million from Mansulkhlal Vaya Mukesh between October 5 and 8, last year by falsely pretending that he could sell him three plots in Nairobi. The court heard that Ngirici received the money at Nairobi’s Westlands. The businessman also denied attempting to obtain Sh1.5 million through false pretences from Mukesh by purporting that he could sell him the land.
That offence was allegedly committed on October 8, last year. Ngirici also denied a further count of uttering forged land documents to Mukesh with intent to defraud him. The prosecution said he committed the offence on October 5, last year in Nairobi. Ngirici was arrested on Wednesday and taken to court yesterday. His case will be heard on March 1. The court ordered him to deposit a cash bail of Sh300,000 for his release.
