A senior judge has thrown the police into a tizzy after he applied for a second gun licence. The application has puzzled the police who are wondering why the judicial officer wants a second gun just months after being given one. Judicial officers are usually granted firearm licences and presented with a gun on appointment. This is apart from the armed bodyguards assigned to them for personal security as well as those assigned to their homes.

The gun incident involving Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza is being followed very keenly. Some wags in the police anxious to see how a reformed judiciary will relate to the men and women in blue say this incident is a test case. Will the judiciary deal impartially with the matter of one of their own involved in misusing a firearm? But unless the CID and the police pursue the matter, investigate it fully and present a charge of willful misuse of a firearm to the judiciary, Kenyans will not know just how impartial the judiciary can be.

The ongoing fights between CIC chairman Charles Nyachae and Attorney General Githu Muigai have taken some of their mutual friends aback. One of them, in dismissing the public verbal brawling, was overheard saying: "If the knack for making news and hogging public limelight were an entry ticket to heaven, then Nyachae would sit right next to JC. And if the relish to do political (not judicial) battle were an Olympic event, Prof Muigai would be Kenya's most illustrious sportsperson!" But all Kenyans want is work done, not endless exchanges between the two learned friends!

People who have lost their property due to the connivance of two senior bankers at a local asset financing bank were taken aback when they confronted the two bankers who taunted them and dared them to present their case in court if they wanted to seek redress. "You can go to court but the bank has enough money to for any payout. That is why it is called a bank!" they were told by the bankers.
