Rejected IDPs say they won't return to camp

By Osinde ObareA section of IDPs stranded in Kitale after residents rejected their resettlement won’t leave.
The victims of the 2007 post-election violence have pitched temporary structures at Soil Conservation Primary School.
Ishmael Lokilu, a victim, said they would camp at the school until the Government resettles them.
"I better die here than go back to the camp in Nakuru. I am tired of being a refugee in my own country," protested Mr Lokilu.
But another group wants the Government to transport them back, citing threats from the host communities.
Mary Nanjala said they would not take the threats lightly.
Local leaders opposed to the resettlement faulted the Government for the failed resettlement bid.
The IDPs were to be resettled on a 1,000-acre farm in Molem in Endebess, Kwanza District.
Kitale Bishop Maurice Crowley criticised the Government for failing to work with residents to make the plan successful.
Crowley said affected families should be given priority.
"The GovernSment should take blame for the resettlement stalemate. There are deserving cases in the county that need to be addressed," argued Bishop Crowley.
