“Central Kenya leaders have been criticising and telling me to step down for Mr Kenyatta but they are mistaken. My vehicle has no reverse gear,” she told hundreds of residents as she opened her party offices at Kangai, Ngurubani and Togonye trading centres in Kirinyaga County.
She said political leadership was all competition and those who could not withstand the fight over the country’s top job should quit.
The Gichugu MP wondered why leaders were asking her to step down yet in 2002 Mr Kenyatta opposed President Kibaki in the race for presidency but they did not ask him to step aside to give the latter an easy ride to State House.
“Why do these leaders think I’m a pushover? I won’t quit the race because of a person whose father has led this nation for many years. He could as well step down so that other Kenyans could have a chance to lead,” she said.
“What we want is someone who can unite Kenyans but not tribalism,” she remarked amid shouts of toboa! (reveal!).
