Share/Save/Bookmark A FORMER Kenya Pipeline senior manager has refuted claims that her appointment to a parastatal board was an inducement not to testify against William Ruto.
Ruto was discharged last week in a case he was accused together with another two suspects of obtaining money fraudulently from the Kenya Pipeline Company where Ms Hellen Njue was finance manager.
Njue who is now a board member of the Coffee Development Fund denied she is the “missing link” in the Ruto case saying her testimony would not have altered the verdict in any way.
She was responding to a story carried by the Sunday Nation three days ago that pointed out that she was not called to testify as a key witness. Njue said it was not for her to decide if she was going to testify because that decision belongs to the prosecution.
She said the paper gave the false impression that it was at her discretion to appear in court or not.“I have always been available, and I'm still available to present whatever information I have to the relevant agencies, including the police. If, for whatever reason, the prosecution did not feel a need for my services, I had no means of directing or guiding the conduct of the case on behalf of the State.”
Njue said the advocates who received the money testified to having received it and how it was disposed. Said Njue: “The said money was paid out by KPC on the strength of a board paper and instructions from the managing director. No single shilling was paid out to Ruto. I find it difficult to see how my appearance in the case would have altered the verdict,” she says. Adding, it just “happened" that the minister who appointed her was Ruto.Njue has threatened to sue the Daily Nation.
