After SMS sacking, I want my dues - Ochieng

By JAMES WAINDISacked Congo United coach Gideon Ochieng' is distraught over the way his job ended and is demanding the club settles his contract deal before the month ends.
Ochieng’ was speaking for the first time since he was sacked through a Short Message Service by the club President Fadhil Bayusuf on Sunday after the league debutants suffered a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of KCB at City Stadium.
Bayusuf then appointed former AFC Leopards coach Gilbert Selebwa as tactician.
"It is embarrassing. Sacking is normal for a coach, but he could have done it in a more respectful way. I have a contract with the club until December 31, and I hope they settle the remainder of my contract soon," said Ochieng’, who formerly coached Gor Mahia.
Ochieng’ had not won a KPL match with the club since the league kicked off in February. He, however, said the team’s downward spiral began when officials started interfering with the side.
"It started after our 0-0 draw with Rangers FC on March 12 in Nairobi. There was a lot of interference from team officials. The technical bench never had a final say on the line-up.
"We had to use a line-up created by the club president or his allies and this never gave me a free hand. We could not have a plan for a match," said Ochieng’, who is back in Nairobi.
He said new coach Selebwa would not last long at the club with the persistent interference.
"The team is good and it has quality players and I could have steered them to greater heights," said Ochieng’.
Congo United are firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with a mere two points from seven matches and still without a win in top flight football.
