ORANGE Democratic Party rebels now want Parliament to recognize a splinter group led by party Deputy leader William Ruto. Ruto's side will push for full recognition of his group claiming the faction led by Prime Minister Raila Odinga has slipped from the party policies and failed to deliver its promises to the electorate.
Some 29 Mps including party chairman Henry Kosgey and two cabinet minister Najib Balala and Sally Kosgey have signed a petition seeking for the registration of a case at the Political Party's tribunal to push for the recognition of the splinter group.
The group has also called into action branch officials from over 50 constituencies to support their move. "We are going to have the party split into two. There are those who have stuck to the ODM agenda and the Raila group who are pushing something similar to it," said the party's Vice Chairman Aden Dualle.
The move to seek redress from the tribunal will also block ODM from moving to court seeking orders to compel the registrar of political party's to write to the National Assembly speaker to notify him of the party's decision to strip two MPs from the party of their membership.
On Wednesday night acting party Secretary-General wrote to the registra of political parties Ms Lucy Ndungu to confirm that his party had expelled Dualle and Chepalungu MP Isaac Rutto. “For the reasons cited above, the party has in accordance with the provisions of section 17b (4) of the political party's act 2007 as read with our constituition struck them off the register of party members,”Nkaissery wrote.
If the registrar writes to the speaker,Dualle and Chepalungu MP Isaac Ruto will loose their seats as the speaker will be required to declare them vacant.
