VP optimistic of Kenya's capacity to try suspects

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has expressed confidence that Kenya has the capacity to try suspects of the post election violence in the country and to guarantee fair trial and justice for all.
Mr. Musyoka said that for the country to safeguard and uphold her sovereignty and integrity it is crucial to have local legal mechanism that would ensure justice for both the suspects and victims of post poll mayhems.
He at the same time explained his recent shuttle diplomacy across Africa, saying he had been sent by President Mwai Kibaki to seek the continent's support to have the suspects tried in Kenya.
"We are not classified under failed states, we cannot just allow Kenyans to be flown out and be tried in a foreign country when we have the capacity to have them face justice here at home," he added.
The Vice President was speaking in Mwingi town during a consultative leaders meeting for his Mwingi North Constituency on Friday.
Mr. Musyoka urged leaders in the area to be at the forefront in spearheading development agenda of the constituency and to avoid wrangles and witch hunting that may jeopardize their unity and service to the people.
He called on wananchi to work closely with the leaders in order to realize faster development.
"You can make a difference in this society if you lead by action and uphold unity of purpose," VP said.
The Vice President advised farmers to form cooperative societies to enable enhance agricultural production and ensure food security besides raising their living standards.
Mr. Musyoka said plans were underway to establish irrigation infrastructure in order to ensure continuous production of both food and cash crops.
He announced that the government had given out Kshs. 1miilion to mitigate against the current severe drought in Kyuso district, particularly through water supply.
The Vice President once again reminded those entrusted with the Constituency Development Funds to exercise transparency and accountability in order for the people to benefit from the kitty.
