The Prime Minister made the remarks on Tuesday at Kaharo village in Maragua district, Murang’a county where he attended the burial of John Gitau, a brother of MP Elias Mbau.
He was speaking on the day President Kibaki withdrew the controversial nominations of people named to the offices of Chief Justice, Attorney general, Director of Public Prosecutions and the Controller of Budget.
Raila said he supported President Kibaki when he was involved in a road accident in 2002 while campaigning. "I seriously supported him and even went ahead to campaign for him in his absence,” said Raila. "Again, during the campaigns for the referendum I was the captain and when I fell sick he comfortably took over the campaigns leading the country into a new constitution,” he told the mourners.
Responding to a request which had been made earlier by Youth assistant minister Kabando Wa Kabando, Raila announced that all displaced people will be resettled by the end of this year."I know you are a reformist. Kindly direct all your energy towards resettling IDPs before rains come,” Kabando had told the Prime Minister.
Raila said the government is committed to resettling all IDS as soon as possible and regretted that the situation arose due what he described as dirty politics.
He said those in camps should go back to their land and those who have nowhere to go will be given land.
