Raila insists ODM still strong

By Allan Kisia
Prime Minister Raila Odinga has moved to reassure Kenyans ODM is still strong despite rebellion by some Rift Valley MPs.
"Don’t think ODM has gone down with force. The party has in fact expanded," Raila said.
The PM said ODM still had dependable MPs, including Deputy Prime Minister, Musalia Mudavadi, Westlands MP, Fred Gumo, Lands Minister James Orengo, Wycliffe Oparanya, and Public Service Minister Dalmas Otieno, among many others.
He was speaking at the burial of the father of Budualang’i MP, Ababu Namwamba, Peter Lwecheche, at Port Victoria in Bunyala District, Budalang’i constituency.
Mudavadi wondered what wrong Raila had committed to warrant the onslaught against him by some MPs.
"What is it that the PM has done or not done to annoy some of our colleagues?" he posed.
He said Raila did not submit the names of MPs Henry Kosgey, William Ruto and others to ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo. He also added that the PM had no capacity to record radio talk shows that implicated a local radio show host Sang and Ruto.
"Does Raila have the machinery to record what Sang said on air?" posed Mudavadi.
Present during the function were Kalenjin MPs Franklin Bett, Beatrice Kones, Joshua Kuttuny, Margerer Lagat, and Joyce Laboso.
Kones said she is happy Budalang’i MP was strong in ODM and urged the constituents to continue supporting the PM.
Bett praised the PM on the way he handled the nomination controversy.
He urged leaders to respect the law, arguing Kenyan did not fight for a new Constitution in vain.
"I have no problems with those nominated by President Kibaki, but I have a problem with the process," Bett said. He said he was still a strong member of ODM and had no intention of moving out.
"I began with ODM in 2008 and I will not be shaken even if some of my colleagues from Rift Valley decide to leave," he said.
He told the PM to remain steadfast; adding those plotting his downfall would not succeed. Laboso said she supported the PM because of what he represents.
