PNU has blamed Narc Kenya for blocking access to government funds allocated to the party.

Nairobi Metropolitan Development Minister Njeru Githae said his party could not access Sh26 million for operations because Narc Kenya went to court.
“We have no money to finance our campaigns because a rival political outfit has moved to court arguing that we are not supposed to get what is rightfully ours,” he told a campaign rally at Kiaritha Mixed Secondary School in Kerugoya.
Spreading propaganda
Mr Githae was campaigning for PNU’s candidate in the Kirinyaga Central by-elections, Mr Gachoki Gitari.
He also accused Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua of spreading propaganda to win sympathy votes for her party’s candidate.
However, the Cabinet minister said money would not determine the outcome of the February 16 vote.
“Money will not play a big role in this election. What matters most is the credibility of a candidate,” he said, adding that PNU would garner 95 per cent of the vote.
The minister claimed that Narc Kenya has been capitalising on those seeking the party’s ticket to raise funds.
“Those candidates who have been running on Narc Kenya ticket pay Sh12 million each to get direct nomination.
‘‘This is the money being used to woo voters in these campaigns,” he claimed.
Mr Gitari dismissed as untrue claims that he had received millions of shillings from PNU to conduct his campaigns.
“I have not received even a cent from the party,” he said.
The aspirant said despite the smear campaigns going on, he would still emerge the winner in the poll race.
Mr Gitari who, earlier donated two computers worth Sh50,000 to the school, promised to address the deteriorating education standards in secondary schools in the constituency if he is elected.
He was concerned that for many years the schools have been performing poorly in national examinations despite having adequate facilities and qualified teachers.
“Our children have been going to waste because they do not pass in KCSE. I want to find out why once I go to Parliament,” he said.
