Celebrations marked the yes victory with ecstatic leaders likening the win to the birth of a bouncing baby boy. In Mombasa, residents took to the streets in song and dance when it was clear 'yes' had established an unassailable lead. Energy minister and Green camp co-coordinator Kiraitu Murungi declared the birth of a new republic and called for celebrations. In the face of all this, 'no' supporters conceded defeat, some graciously and others less so.
