RAILA RAISES 6 000 000 FOR 'YES'

Nairobi — Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Thursday night led the 'Yes' camp in raising close to Sh6 million for the campaign in support of the proposed constitution.

The 'Yes' luminaries who included Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka declared that 70 per cent of Kenyans would vote in favour of the proposed constitution.

President Kibaki was the highest contributor, sending Sh1.2 million, the PM and the VP each contributed Sh1 million. Other dignitaries including ministers gave between Sh100,000 and Sh500,000.

The PM said that the fundraiser showed that they were not looting the Treasury.

The group will on Friday seek to rally voters in Ukambani behind the proposed constitution. President Kibaki, Mr Odinga and Mr Musyoka are set to address a rally in Machakos Town.

The 'Yes' campaign team tours Ukambani two days after Mr Musyoka led a delegation of leaders from the region to a meeting with President Kibaki at Harambee House on strategies to rally voters in the area to endorse the proposed constitution at the August 4 referendum.

The leaders, who included Water minister Charity Ngilu, are said to have encountered strong opposition from MPs in the 'No' camp, among them Mr Kiema Kilonzo (Mutito).
