A police officer has been killed after unknown assailants ambushed highway patrol officers on the Maai Mahiu- Naivasha road in an early morning incident.
An unknown number of others were injured after the thugs sprayed the officers' vehicle with bullets.
And in a dramatic twist, police killed four of the assailants and recovered three AK-47 rifles in Ruaka, Nairobi.
Police circulated the registration number of the Naivasha getaway car, which was picked up by their colleagues and a car chase ensued.
A motorist died from injuries suffered by a stray bullet about one kilometre from the scene of the killings. An bystander was also killed.
Separately, a senior police officer was found dead by the roadside in South B estate, Nairobi. He appeared to have been strangled.
