NJENGA SAYS YES

Former Mungiki sect leader Maina Njenga on Monday said he will back the adoption of the proposed constitution at the referendum.

Mr Njenga, who recently renounced the outlawed sect and said he had received salvation, promised to mobilise supporters to endorse the draft during the vote.

He was speaking after holding talks with Prime Minister Raila Odinga at his Treasury office in Nairobi.

The Premier said the government was committed to addressing concerns of the youth in the country.

Apart from constitutional matters, Mr Odinga said the talks with the former sect leader also delved on issues pertaining to youth empowerment, employment among other matters of national interest.

Mr Njenga announced plans to recruit former sect members-turned Christians into the Yes campaign team to ensure that the draft was enacted.

He said provisions in the draft were youth-friendly since they were tailor made to address the ills that have dogged the governance structures of the country since independence.
