Imanyara bill

Gitobu Imanyara Monday denied claims that he had been approached by the government to shelve the constitution of Kenya amendment bill 2009 seeking to establish a special tribunal to try post poll violence suspects.

Imanyara dismissed reports appearing in a section of the media as unfounded saying he will table his bill in parliament on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference at parliament buildings, Imanyara said the bill will be the first agenda in the house which resumes Tuesday.

He said the move by ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo to commence investigations into the Kenya's situation does not overshadow the need for a local tribunal.

"We have shown leadership it is our opportunity as MPs to go a step further to bring to an end the process that we agreed to pursue when we adopted the Waki report" said the legislator.

Imanyara said he hoped Parliament would approve his Bill saying that the bill is not directed at any community or individual whatsoever.
