Public Service Week

This year's Public Service Week dubbed 'Modernizing the Public Service towards the Realization of Kenya Vision 2030' opened Tuesday morning at Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi.

Government ministries and departments are showcasing their services and interacting with members of the public with emphasis on performance contracting, E-government and development of strategic reforms.

Speaking ahead of the official launch, Prime Minister Raila Odinga said the government has introduced various reforms and management initiatives in the Public Service to enhance effective and efficient service delivery.

He said the reforms include the introduction of performance contracting and results based management to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public affairs.

The Premier said Information Communications and Technologies (ICT) have also become an integral part of public service delivery as well as the prioritization of the rehabilitation and expansion of physical infrastructure in line with the country's Vision 2030.

Speaking during the launch, Raila challenged all the Government ministries and public servants who do not meet the expectations of the public to embrace reforms so as to serve the public better.

The PM said corrupt and incompetent civil servants will face the sack.

He at the same time called on the public servants to serve Kenyans with zeal and at all times desist from corruption.

Raila further said the event is meant to open a two-way communication between the government and the citizens.

Public Service Minister Dalmas Otieno said the time was now for errant public servants to change their attitude, as the public is now more aware of their rights.

Members of public had an interactive session with government ministries and departments show casing their services during the three day Public Service week.
