LUHYAS should rally behind Raila Odinga in the 2017 general election because he helped many of their leaders get government positions when he was Prime Minister, an ODM official has said.
In a statement yesterday, ODM Nairobi chairman George Aladwa said the community controlled key institutions under Raila’s watch.
These include Parliament, when Kenneth Marende was the House Speaker, he said.
“Under Raila, Mudavadi was the Deputy Prime Minister, Oparanya was Planning Minister and Gumo was in charge of Regional Development,” Alwadwa said.
He named Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, who was Minister for Local Government, as well as Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba, who was Sports Minister.
“Remember it’s during Raila’s reign that Luhyas were taking charge of City Hall. I was the city mayor and my brother Phillip Kisia was the town Clerk,” Aladwa said.
He criticised politicians in the community who have been “persistently attacking Raila”.
This echoed the criticism on Saturday by Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli, who told off Marende for maligning Raila’s name.
