[PICTURES] Uhuru's Obama-esque tour of Uganda

BY EUGENE OKUMU

President Uhuru Kenyatta's tour of Uganda bore an uncanny resemblance to United States Barack Obama’s maiden presidential tour of Kenya and Ethiopia in July.
Upon arrival at State House, Entebbe, on Saturday, Uhuru was accorded a 21-gun salute, just like Obama was, at State House, Nairobi.
In both cases, the leaders held bilateral talks and later, the visiting presidents were treated to banquets at the state houses.
Among topics covered during the talks during the two visits were a more concentrated effort in the war of corruption and security.
Uhuru inspected a guard of honour by the Uganda Defence Force before delivering a key address on Monday while Obama inspected a troop of navy officers.
The president toured the CIPLA Quality Chemical Industry manufacturing plant in Kampala while Obama visited the FAFFA manufacturing plant in Addis Ababa.
Uhuru's address to the Ugandan Parliament marked the end of his three-day state visit, while Obama's trip ended with a much awaited speech at Safaricom Stadium Kasarani.
The two addresses both featured calls for an opposition that tows the line, with emphasis for cooperation with the state, and democracy.
