Pastor James Ng'ang'a's Karen home was early Friday morning broken into and over Sh500,000 in cash and other valuables stolen.
Confirming the 3am incident, Nairobi CID chief Ireri Kamwende said the robbers gained access into the house by breaking the grills on the windows.
Kamwende said investigations into the incident are already under way adding that it was Ng'ang'a's wife who reported the break-in to police.
A section of officers probing the incident however read mischief and say it could be a ploy to earn public sympathy for the pastor who is currently facing a murder charge in a Limuru court.
The controversial Neno Evangelical Ministries Bishop on Thursday night slept in police cells for the second day, after he was charged with causing a fatal road accident and conspiracy offences following the July 26 crash.
Ng'ang'a was denied bail.
Limuru Senior Resident Magistrate Timothy ole Tanchu made the ruling Thursday morning saying; "Having considered the prosecution and the defence request regarding whether to release the accused on bond, the court will look at them keenly and give its ruling tomorrow [Friday] at 11am. The accused will be returned to the station where they were being held."
Ng'ang'a has on several occasions denied being the one driving a red Range Rover that collided head on with another vehicle at Manguo area in Limuru on July 26, causing the death of Mercy Njeri, 38, and injuring her husband, Martin Mbugua.
Others charged with Ng'ang'a include Simon Kuria who according to initial police reports at Tigoni Police Station was the driver at the time of the accident.
Limuru Traffic Commander Patrick Baya and Inspector Christopher Nzilu were also charged with neglecting their duties and providing misleading information to public officials.
Ng’ang’a yesterday lost his bid to stop his prosecution, arguing it had been overtaken by events. Through lawyers Assa Nyakundi and Cliff Ombeta, Ng’ang’a sought to have the petition amended.
Ng’ang’a and his co-accused were arrested Wednesday, and spent the night in the Gigiri police station cells.
A large number of his worshippers jammed the Limuru court as Nga’ng’a appeared in both the Limuru and Milimani courts and police had difficulty controlling them as court proceedings went on.
