US President Barack Obama was Kenya’s leading trending personality search on Google in July. According to Google Search trends, Obama attracted the highest amount of traffic on the search engine following his three-day visit to attend the sixth Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi.
His half-sister Auma Obama was the second most-searched person online. Barcelona FC forward, Pedro Rodriguez, was the third trending personality.
Veteran comedian Benson Wanjau aka Mzee Ojwang was the fourth trending personality following his death, at the age of 78, as Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria came in fifth.
Jehovah Wanyonyi, the self-proclaimed ‘god’ also trended after his mysterious disappearance. He was announced dead last week. Other trending personality searches were Matteo Darmian, a 25-year old football star and new-signing for Manchester United, Mexican drug lord Joaquín Guzmán aka El Chapo and Sandra Bland – an African-American woman who was found dead in a jail cell in Texas, last month.
Eiji Tsuburaya, a Japanese special effects director and co-creator of Japanese science-fiction film Godzilla took the tenth trending position after Google celebrated his 114th birthday with an interactive Doodle that enabled users to assemble their own creature feature.
