KURESOI South MP Zakayo Cheruiyot has said Deputy President William Ruto is unlikely to win the 2022 Presidential elections if he runs on a Jubilee ticket.
Speaking at a rally on Friday in Kuresoi, Cheruiyot opened fresh attacks on Ruto, as Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto said Jubilee has sidelined the South Rift.
“JAP is not a strategy for 2022. It can only help them win 2017 but if the DP still wants to win in 2022, he will have to go back to the drawing board,” Rutto said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA and Ruto’s URP, among other Jubilee affiliate parties, are set to be merged to form JAP.
He joined Western Kenya leaders in castigating the government’s decision to import sugar from Uganda, saying it is a threat to the economy.
“I am surprised Uhuru entered into trade talks with Uganda while our own country produces sugar,” Cheruiyot said.
Cheruiyot said for three years Uhuru and Ruto have been running the Jubilee government, but nothing good has come out of it.
Speaking in Bomet town on Saturday, Uhuru’s political adviser Joshua Kuttuny and National Assembly deputy speaker Joyce Laboso called upon Kalenjin community leaders to respect the DP.
Kuttuny and Laboso said divergent opinions should not cause enmity among leaders and residents.
