BY STAR REPOIG Joseph Boinnet has reinstated Charles Wahongo as police spokesman with immediate effect, and transferred Zipporah Mboroki to the logistics department.
Wahongo became staffing officer in the operations department at the police headquarters after being moved from the post by former IG David Kimaiyo in July 2013.
He had held the position in an acting capacity following Eric Kiraithe's departure.
A source privy to the change said the move resulted from the fiasco surrounding the fatal Limuru crash, involving a Range Rover said to be controversial pastor James Ng’ang’a's.
Mercy Njeri, 38, died following the accident that has caused public outcry over the manner in which the investigation was expedited and Ng’ang’a acquitted by the police.
The source said Boinnet, who ordered fresh investigations after initial findings contradicted witness accounts, was unhappy with the turn of events.
During a vetting by the National Police Service Commission in March, Wahongo said the millions in his account were as a result of his business acumen.
“Unilever and the National Housing Corporation have been sending me between Sh9 million and Sh10 million from time to time,” he told the commission.
He added that his fish farming business was another source of income from which he expected to harvest 20,000 tilapias to be sold at Sh250 each early in the year.
