BUNGOMA
Luhya elders will not support any attempt to oust Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, their chairman Mzee Patrick Wangamati has said.
County representatives and the public want Mr Lusaka removed from office over claims of using public funds to campaign for former Webuye MP Musikari Kombo in the recently concluded senatorial polls.
Mr Kombo (New Ford-Kenya) lost to Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula. Mr Lusaka has denied the allegations.
“As elders, we shall not be part of any scheme to remove our governor from office. We need to move forward as a county and embrace everyone,” Mr Wangamati, who is also a nominated MP, said Tuesday.
He defended Mr Lusaka, saying it was within his right to back Mr Kombo.
“We want the governor to work closely with the senator so that we realise development as a county. Residents of Bungoma want to see service delivery,” he said.
He said the Luhya Elders Forum would soon call a meeting for all governors in Western Province to discuss development.
