Khalwale loses his phone at AFC Leopards match

Tuesday, July 23, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY REUBEN OLITA
Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale was robbed off his mobile phone and wallet at Mumias Sports Complex.
He had gone to watch a football match between AFC Leopards and Mathare United Tusker Premier League.
The fans who had seen him arrive starteed chanting praises and songs for the Ikolomani "bullfighter"  while carrying him on their shoulders.
It was after the “warm reception” that the Senator discovered his phone and wallet which were in his pockets were missing.
It is believed that some of the fans were pickpockets.
Sources close to Khalwale revealed that he was more worried that he had lost his mobile phone than cash in his wallet.
He however went on cheering AFC Leopards team as if nothing had happened.
The dignitaries accompanying Khalwale who included AFC Leopards chairman Allan Kasavuli, secretary George Aladwa and Mumias Sugar director of marketing and corporate affairs Pamela Lutta learnt of the incident.
Police  yesterday said they have launched investigations into the theft case to arrest the suspects.
They said they have informed mobile phone providers Safaricom to help them track Khalwale’s phone.
Hundreds of fans who had turned up to watch the match were turned away after tickets ran out.
Leopards who are sponsored by Mumias Sugar Company beat Mathare 2-0 to reverse the 1-0 first leg win in Nairobi.
The club has a three-year sponsorship deal worth Sh60 million which started in 2011 and is due to end at the end of the year.
Mumias Sugar MD Peter Kebati last Friday held a meeting with Leopards officials and said the company will renew the contract.
Lutta however said the details and terms of the contract will be unveiled in the next few weeks when the two parties hold another meeting.
