Jubilee candidate attacks Kalonzo over claim

By Onesmus Nzioka
MAKUENI, KENYA: Jubilee candidate for the Makueni senate seat Prof. Phillip Kaloki has told off former VP Kalonzo Musyoka over the latter’s claims of betrayal.
Kaloki expressed his bitterness over the continued attacks by Wiper leaders led by Kalonzo that dwell more on his personality other than the agenda he has for the people of Makueni.
During the CORD rally at Unoa primary school grounds in Wote Saturday, Kaloki’s name came up as part of the day’s agenda, with Kalonzo terming him a betrayer of the Makueni people and Kamba community.
“I am surprised that a person of Kalonzo’s stature can go round spreading propaganda about my personality. Questioning my academicqualifications does not in any way help the people of Makueni,” he said.
“Kalonzo should know that I am a qualified professor with a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Nairobi. Instead of attacking each other on such issues, let’s critique each other’s development agenda,” said Kaloki.
Kaloki said he has respected Kalonzo’s political choices in the past, and it is time he (Kalonzo) respects his political decision this time round.
Addressing the press on Sunday after the CORD rally, Kaloki asked Kalonzo to provide responsibleleadership and stop the sideshows that may create disharmony among the people of Makueni and the Kamba community.
He said Kalonzo should know that political parties are just vehicles to leadership positions, and that he (Kaloki) has chosen to ride on one of them, that happen to be outside the CORD coalition.
He said his candidature was a result of the people’s request, and that he was at liberty to exercise his democratic right, as entrenched in the constitution.
â€The people of Makueni came to me requesting that I contest this seat because they believe I have what it takes to represent their interests. We will not allow outsiders to dictate to us and create disharmony amongst us,” said Kaloki while defending his candidature.
“The people of Makueni know what I stand for and that is why they have allowed me to work withJubilee and the National government. I want to help my people get resources to fight hunger, improve health services, and above all fight for the construction of Malili ICT Park,” he said.
We can only achieve that by working with the Jubilee government, that is controlling 85 percent of national resources,” added Kaloki.
Kaloki termed Wiper’s criticism of his choice to run on a NARC ticket as reckless talk made in bad faith, to tarnish his name. He asked Wiper leaders to concentrate on selling their candidate and respect other people’s choices.
