Nakuru GovernorKinuthia Mbugua faces impeachment over nominees

By Karanja Njoroge
NAKURU, KENYA: A show down is looming between Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua and Members of the County assembly following the swearing in of rejected nominees to the Executive Committee.
Members of the assembly are planning to table a motion to impeach the Governor for contravening the constitution by swearing in the nominees after they were rejected by the Chamber.
Six nominees for the executive committee and two other members to serve in the public service were sworn in Tuesday in a ceremony attended by the Governor. Interim County Secretary John Motari who had been found unsuitable by the vetting team also took oath of office during the function.
Angry MCA led by the Speaker Susan Kihika have said they would use all means to ensure those illegally sworn in do not transact business in the Chamber. “Our position as the assembly is that the slots of the rejected Executive nominees have not been filled. We shall use all means including tabling a motion to impeach those who have breached the law,” the Speaker said.
Section 181(1) of the constitution provides grounds under which a governor may be removed from office and which include gross violation of of the constitution, abuse of office or gross misconduct as cited by the MCA's.
