Nakuru Governor forced to revoke appointments

Nakuru, Kenya: Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has beaten a retreat and agreed to withdraw the nine County Government officials sworn in despite being rejected by the County Assembly.

Mbugua caved in to pressure to revoke the appointments even as a motion seeking to impeach him was filed by a member of the County Assembly.

At a meeting with MCAs, the Governor was forced to eat humble pie and gave in to demands to revoke the appointment of the officials who were controversially sworn into office at a private members’ club last week.

The Speaker, Susan Kihika, Senator James Mungai and leader of the Majority Njenga Mwaura among others, attended the stormy meeting held at theCounty Assembly.

Sources at the meeting said the County Ward Representatives told the Governor the only way to resolve the crisis facing the county was to rescind the controversial appointments.

But speaking after the meeting Monday, Mbugua remained cagey on the issue only telling the media that differences between him and the County Assembly had been ironed out.

“Any issue of procedure that has been facing the county has been ironed out,” he said.
