MACHAKOS, KENYA: Kamba leaders have declared “enough was enough” and told the Jubilee Government to stop frustrating and intimidating former Vice President and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
The leaders described conditions from Jubilee-allied MPs in the National Assembly that Kalonzo and the CORD leader Raila Odinga should quit politics to access their retirement package as a dirty ploy by the government to tame and politically immobilise the two.
Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama led MPs Francis Mwangangi (Yatta), Peter Mathuki (Easter Africa), Itwiku Mbai (Masinga), Robert Mutemi (nominated), former MPs Gedion Mutiso and Charles Kilonzo in reading a mischief in Jubilee’s plans and put the President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto on notice if the schemes were not toned down.
Muthama said the recent ugly drama at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where Raila and Kalonzo were denied access to the VIP lounge were among other occurrences that Uhuru Government was using to clip the CORD leaders’ political wing ahead of the 2017 General Election.
“We are sending a firm warning to Jubilee Government. Any attempts to throw Kalonzo who is our Kamba undisputed kingpin into political dustbin will be met with equal resistance,” Muthama said.
They spoke during the burial of former civic leader and Wiper trustee, Mwando Kyalo, at Matungulu village, Yatta constituency in Machakos County, at the weekend.
Kalonzo who was present was more candid when he accused the government for attempts to intimidate him and dent his political career by imposing “uneatable conditions.”
“I will not be cowed or allow anyone to dig his finger into my nose. I will remain strong and I will soldier on”, the Wiper leader said.
The ex-VP faulted the last elections by simply saying “if you cannot have a legitimate process, you cannot have legitimate government.”
Muthama challenged Uhuru’s administration to put his house in order and sort out things that threaten the country’s unity.
“Attempts to kill devolution through denying counties money and refusing to pay teachers of their dues among other challenges need to be addressed urgently”, Muthama said.
The senator supported teachers’ threat to down their tools over unpaid dues and told the government “the public servants strikes are inevitable.”
Kalonzo said time when the Kamba community was dismissed as divisive and unwise was long gone.
The leaders threw their weight behind the late Mutula Kilonzo’s daughter, Kethi Kilonzo, and announced they will escort her to Wote town today to officially launch her campaigns for the Makueni senatorial quest.
