Corridors of power

Saturday, June 22, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
A Cabinet Secretary got a rude reality check when he tried to stamp his authority in his department soon after he was appointed. The man took over his office and ordered a freeze of all payment until an immediate audit of pending bills was done. The cartels that enjoy enormous political support summoned him to a rendezvous where it proceeded to give the cornered minister a tongue lashing with threats to rescind the decision or else. In the heat of the moment, a member of the cartel tried to slap the minister only to be restrained by his colleagues. The hapless man was forced to rescind his order and the bills for the cartels were paid promptly.

We are told that all is not well at the IEBC. While some commissioners and senior staff have been openly boasting how they fixed a certain presidential candidate others are planning to to fight back in support of the former aspirant. It is not clear how and how many those plotting the fight are but Corridors has it that sabotage may be one issue.

That Ahmednassir Abdulahi is interested in defending his seat at the Judicial Service Commission is a matter that has got tongues wagging. We are told that the senior lawyer has been thinking about take a stab at another term but some of the lawyers are planning to defeat him. Ahmednassir is a member of the JSC because he was elected by the Law Society of Kenya members to represent them. Those opposed to the ebullient lawyer say he has served his purpose and should now let other people take over.
