CORRIDORS OF POWER

We are told Deputy President William Ruto kept the people of Baringo waiting for hours over the weekend. He was billed to attend a peace prayer meeting in Kabarnet and participants kept looking up in the air for a sign of his chopper but it was not forthcoming. What they did not know is that the weather up there was foul and their man could not take the risk. The people only dispersed after the organisers confirmed he would not show up owing to bad weather.

An aide to one of the senior politicians in the country has confounded friend and foe. The man has suddenly raised the access fee to his boss to unimaginable heights. The man is now charging thousands of shillings to people intending to see the big man. The charges, we are told, are pegged on the depth of their pockets and desperation levels. Recently an Asian friend of the big man was repelled after he failed to part with Sh2 million access fee to the man. The man called corridors complaining.

A Jubilee MP from Central was one of the victims of a con act involving the performance by the African reggae icon Alpha Blondy over the weekend. The man complained he paid the most for the show which was to take place at the KICC. He was overheard saying unless the Jubilee government investigates and hauls in the people behind the fraud he will take it that “it’s business as usual”.

The Administration Police guarding the KBC cafeteria near the Hotel Boulevard entrance are making the most of the traffic laws. Corridors heard that the cops take turns to trap motorists making illegal turns from Uhuru Highway and milk them in the process. None of the many people flagged down by the APs ever end up charged of a traffic offence. We are now told that business there is booming so much so that “core business” has shifted from guarding the facility to manning the road.
