Friday, the 8th of March 2013 - The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is today expected to make the announcement of who between Jubilee’s Uhuru Kenyatta and CORD’s Raila Odinga won last Monday’s Presidential election.
The two leading candidates have left the other six Presidential hopefuls trailing in their dust since Monday and, indeed, it’s now mathematically impossible for them to catch up.
With 223 of the 291 electoral constituencies having released their results, this is how the Presidential tally stood between the top two candidates at the time of posting;
Uhuru - 4,835,482 (49.5%)
Raila - 4,316,006 (44.2%)
At this point a run-off looks very likely since none of the candidates have managed to get the ‘50% plus one’ requirement that is provided for in the constitution for a candidate to be declared the winner.
More updates to follow.
